Seminars and Masters-classes

11.05.2007

Attention of specialists of finance and economics!!!

On June 6-7, 2007 Yerzhan Tatishev Foundation in collaboration with International School of Economics under Kazakh-British Technical University and London School of Economics and Political Science will organize lectures for the specialists of financial and economic spheres on following themes:

1. “Creating an EU Retail Banking Market”
Assesses progress towards creating a single market in retail banking services in the European Union and the barriers that have yet to be overcome - a cross border payments system has yet to develop and there have been fewer cross border mergers to date, but would consolidation be good for the consumers?

Date: June 6, 2007, Wednesday
Time: 14.30-16.00

2. “Bank Regulation and The Corporate Governance of Banks”
Introduces the corporate governance (principal-agent) problem and explains why it is different for banks (because they have a fiduciary duty to depositors as well as shareholders). To resolve the problem, banks need to be regulated to protect depositors.

Date: June 6, 2007 Wednesday
Time: 16.30-18.00

3. “Globalization, Financial Sector Convergence and Corporate Governance”
Examines the convergence of financial systems, driven by globalization, and the emergence of a hybrid financial system. The hybrid system consists of financial conglomerates combining commercial and investment (universal) banking and insurance (bancassurance) and is more capital market oriented. The implications of ‘hybridisation’ for corporate governance are explored.

Time: 15.00-17.00
